The Best Questions to Ask When Switching Careers
The Best Questions to Ask When Switching Careers When enthusiasm and passion for your career turns to apathy and discontent, it may be time to move on to the next opportunity. There are benefits to a job change- such as leaving your comfort zone, diversifying your skills, and taking a chance on your own ambitions- but itââ¬â¢s also important to consider the risks and determine whether itââ¬â¢s worth the trade-off. This is especially true if youââ¬â¢re switching careers, where you may need to take a demotion or step back, starting in a lower position to make your way back up the latter. Before jumping into your new career, ask yourself these five questions, all of which will help you figure out exactly what you want and need.ââ¬Å"Do I Need More Opportunity to Grow?â⬠A common cause of job dissatisfaction is boredom and lack of engagement because your experience or skills are underused. In this case, Fast Company suggests considering whether thereââ¬â¢s still room for growth in your current position, or if youââ¬â ¢ve ââ¬Å"maximized the opportunities for advancement.â⬠To remain engaged, motivated and empowered in a career, you need responsibilities that can help you stretch and progress. This may be possible in your current position, avoiding the need to switch jobs or careers. Express concerns with your manager and see if thereââ¬â¢s a promotion opportunity, or even a chance to step up or lead on a new project. If your current job doesnââ¬â¢t offer the potential for growth, itââ¬â¢s time to seek one that does.à à à ââ¬Å"Am I Afraid to Do What I Really Want?â⬠According to a 2016 fears survey, personal failure is the number one fear among Americans. This intense aversion to the idea of failing keeps you stagnant, detached, complacent and timid to make any change that disrupts the status quo- even when itââ¬â¢s a change that could improve your situation long-term, like a new job or career change.Instead of allowing fear and uncertainty to hold you back, be int entional about gaining both the confidence and courage to bet on yourself. Consider what you really want to do, and whether itââ¬â¢s feasible at this point in your career. In most cases, it is.Note that it may be helpful to find a mentor and learn how they got started and how your current experience could be valuable in this new career. Theyââ¬â¢re guidance will allow you to get started on the right foot and set reasonable expectations.ââ¬Å"What Skills Do I Need?â⬠A lack of formal training or experience in the career you want to pursue doesnââ¬â¢t mean youââ¬â¢re unqualified. Forbes points out that skills honed in your current position may also be transferable to your new role. The key is knowing how to present those skills on your resume to show youââ¬â¢re prepared for this new career or job. Here are a few tips from Resume Genius for making your skills stand out:Quantify when possible. Instead of ââ¬Å"Types fastâ⬠say ââ¬Å"WPM Typist.â⬠Instead o f listing ââ¬Å"Proficient with Adobeâ⬠list the specific tools: ââ¬Å"Proficient with Illustrator and Indesign.â⬠List most important skills for position first.Include examples of how you use those skills, if possible. Finally, consider whether you should list your technical skills at the top or bottom of your resume: ââ¬Å"Most job seekers end up choosing a resume templateà that places their relevant skills closer to the bottom, butà for some specific industries listing them at the top is very effective,â⬠explains Resume Genius. These industries include:Information TechnologyGraphic DesignManufacturingTechnical WritingEngineeringââ¬Å"How Can I Meet the Right People?â⬠Professional contacts in your field of interest can be assets during the transition period, offering recommendations, answering questions, and introducing you to the right companies. If you donââ¬â¢t have these contacts already, the first step in switching careers is finding them by sett ing up meetings and attending networking events. It may sound like a lot of work, and it can be, but in the end, itââ¬â¢s worth it:ââ¬Å"Finding people who challenge your ideas, push you to be better and give you developmental feedback- the trifecta for success and growth- requires hard work,â⬠notes Ted Rollins, long-time entrepreneur recognized by Inc. 500. ââ¬Å"So find events, both networking and otherwise, where you can connect with people who cross geographical, organizational and hierarchical lines, then youââ¬â¢ll be on a path to success.â⬠ââ¬Å"Am I Willing to Start from Scratch?â⬠Regardless of your current rank in the pecking order, when switching to another industry, itââ¬â¢s often unavoidable that youââ¬â¢ll need to start from the bottom. If this new role requires a degree of expertise outside your wheelhouse, prepare to accept an entry-level position rather than overshooting based on your former credentials. Remind yourself that this will l ikely be challenging:ââ¬Å"You might be leaving behind a reputation, and sets of skills that you worked hard to build. When you take a risk like that, it can be doubly frustrating when things donââ¬â¢t happen right away, or you donââ¬â¢t get the level of job or salary that you were hoping for. So as you go into it, take a deep breath and understand that there will be challenges,â⬠says Kate Lopaze, another contributor for The Job Network.Besides, a positive attitude, eagerness to learn and diligent work ethic can help you advance faster than a sense of entitlement and inflated ego.Is it time to switch careers? If you feel that a career move would be in your best interest, after considering these questions, then embrace the change and trust in your own abilities to succeed. Form relationships with others who can point you toward actualizing your objectives, use resources like LinkedIn and job posting websites to make yourself visible to recruiters, and continue honing the skills and confidence needed to forge ahead on this next phase of your career.BIO: Jessica Thiefels has been writing for more than 10 years, is currently a full-time writer, content marketing consultant and business owner. The Impact of On-line Learning And Its Potential to Improve Standards Essay
The Impact of On-line Learning And Its Potential to Improve Standards In Secondary Education - Essay Example This essay stresses that online learning does not provide the spontaneous situations for learning through peer interaction. Traditional interaction between students, between teacher and student, between student and other employees like the librarian or bus driver will enter a new dynamic or become passà ©. Anecdotally, school yard tyrants wonââ¬â¢t be able to teach the harsh realities of the outside society. How does is peer social interaction affected? Will there be any impact on social and emotional development, and the acquisition of the stereotypical sex roles. The proposed research project is likely to face difficulties regarding detailed feedback on assignments; telephonic contact with the university whereby students can engage with tutors and administrative staff in order to solve academic or other difficulties, and assistance in the formation of study groups. Other factors that may make the study difficult include Geographical isolation or lack of a study partner, family problems, noisy neighbours and a lack of understanding of assignment questions. The technological aspect may also pose problems like difficulties with navigation and with the ease of doing some of the interactive exercises. One of the major hurdles is in the form of the lack of opportunity to plan experimental work with single variables and controls. Moral considerations prevent the notion of providing one kind of service to one cohort of students, and another, perhaps less expensive, service to another group for the purpose of research - and yet this is done in the med ical profession.

Company Law, Essay questoin Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Company Law, questoin - Essay Example they could legally carry out their operations and stating the duties and responsibilities of all the components of the corporations: be they shareholders or directors. In UK, the Company Act contains all these rules and regulations for companies established in the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. However, two versions of the Company Act, namely Company Act 1985 and Company Act 2006 offer varied rights and obligations for shareholders as explained below. Minority shareholders (those whose shareholding is 50% or less), in particular, are given some forms of protection from majority shareholders. ââ¬ËA member of a company may apply to the courtâ⬠¦ for an order under this Part on the ground that the companyââ¬â¢s affairs are being or have been conducted in a manner which is unfairly prejudicial to the interests of its members generally or of some part of its membersâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ [Emphatically a ââ¬Å"memberâ⬠means a shareholder]1 Instituting a legal suit: Shareholders could start a legal proceeding against the directors and the companies in case unexpected unfair practices are discovered. This empowers shareholders to boldly challenge the directors or other management members whenever they abused their positions and undermine the integrity of the companyââ¬â¢s constitution2. Some of the abuses include but not limited to the misuse of companyââ¬â¢s asset, exaggerated self-aggrandisement and absolute breach of companyââ¬â¢s rules to satisfy personal interests. So, minority shareholders, for instance, could only use the power of law here to seek redress against the majority shareholders, managers and directors. For the fact that bad management on the part of the directors could destroy the companyââ¬â¢s operations and plunge everyone into insolvency, the opposing action by the shareholders would help return sanity to the companyââ¬â¢s activities. A typical instance of when shareholders kicked against the selfish desires of directors who tried to break the companyââ¬â¢s rules in pursuit

How ICT has helped people with special needs Essay Example for Free
How ICT has helped people with special needs Essay Introduction In this essay I will be analysing how the usage of ICT helps people with special needs. There are 3 types of special needs. What is a physical disability? The term disability, as it is applied to humans, refers to any condition that impedes the completion of daily tasks using traditional methods. National governments and global humanitarian agencies have narrowed this definition for their own purposes, only pledging aid to those with specific disabilities of a certain severity What is a sensory disability? Is when someone is you are Deaf, visually impaired, hearing impaired or have a significant combination of hearing and sight loss. What is a learning difficulty? A disorder in basic psychological processes involved in understanding or using language, spoken or written, that may manifest itself in an imperfect ability to listen, think, speak, read, write, spell or use mathematical calculations. The term includes conditions such as perceptual disability, brain injury, minimal brain dysfunction, dyslexia, and developmental aphasia. How ICT is used to help those with Learning Difficulties Multimedia software Helps people who find it hard to concentrate. It uses different forms of media, pictures, sound clips and video to keep the user interested. Specialised educational software Theres a huge range of software available to help people struggling with different subjects and useful tips e. g. help with reading and basic maths. Touch screens These are useful for people who finding using a mouse or any other sort of input device difficult. Spell checkers Can help people with dyslexia who finds it difficult to spell; you can set it up so check your words as you type. How ICT is used to help those with visual difficulties. People with hearing difficulties can still use most computer functions normally. One thing you can do though is set up the computer to display visual icons rather than using sound. DVDs are much better than videotapes as you can use the subtitle facilities. Many recent communication technologies like e-mail and texting work really well for people with hearing. Being able to set mobile phones to vibrate or flash is also very useful. Text phones are an older system that replaces a standard telephone with a keyboard and a screen. What you type on both screens- a bit like a chat-room. Both sender and receiver need a text phone machine. If a person has problem seeing or is completely blind they would be categorized as having a Visual disabilities. If a person cannot read small type then there are a lot of magnification devices out on the market, which fit almost anything from phones to monitors. For example a person with low vision would use a keyboard with extra large print. If a person is completely blind then they would use a speech recognition device. Changing the screen settings can help. You can also change the colour scheme, screen resolution and fonts to make it clearer. For the blind, special hardware is available- Braille keyboards make it easy to type, and describe whats on the screen. Screen readers are pieces of software that use speech synthesis technology to read out and describe whats on the screen. Text-To-Speech. A text-to-speech is designed for individuals with reading difficulties. It works by simultaneously highlights and reading aloud of text. There are other devices for people with reading disabilities such as spellcheckers How ICT is used to help those with hearing difficulties. Speech Recognition There are two uses for speech recognition these are Dictation and Computer control. Speech recognition is one of the desired assistive technology systems. People believe speech recognition is a natural and easy method of accessing the computer A dyslexic person who has problems with writing English would use the speech recognition to make sure their English is correct. A person planning to use speech recognition must be aware he is required to go through a training session. If someone is not able to use a mouse because they havent got full control in there hands then there are mouse alternatives to help people with the disabilities. How ICT can help those with Physical Difficulties Many people find mice difficult to use- there are many alternatives such as tracker balls, Joy Sticks and tough pads. People with limited hand movement can get specially designed keyboards to suit there needs. Voice Recognition software can be used by people with little or no hand movement. It lets you speak to the computer to navigate menus and do what you want it to do. If you are severely limited, you can use a computer with switches carefully arranged- Stephen Hawking is a famous example of someone who uses ICT in this way. For people with limited mobility, environmental control systems can be set up to atomically open, close curtains, turn lights on and off, operate heaters and so on. How ICT can help those with Language difficulties Dictionary software can help you to quickly translate individual words. Learning software can help you practise an unfamiliar language with exercises where you can hear phrases spoken. It can also record your voice and play it back to see how well you have done. Most word processing packages can check your spelling in different languages and check that your sentences make sense. In conclusion it is fair to say that people with disabilities might need variations on the standard equipment to use computers, but once they have these mentioned above I am sure it can change the way they live.

Liberation of Woman Essay example -- Argumentative Persuasive Essays
The Liberation of Woman à à à The terms "Liberated Women" and "Women's Liberation" are not necessarily synonymous. In fact, much like the chicken and the egg, one may wonder which came first. While the term "Liberated Women" was probably not a widely used phrase until the height of the women's liberation movement, I maintain that liberated women emerged first. Moreover, it was the liberated women who inspired and initiated the women's liberation movement. à In "The Politics of Housework" Pat Mainardi writes, "Liberated women - very different from women's liberation! The first signals all kids of goodies, to warm the hearts (not to mention other parts) of the most radical men. The other signals - housework" (Bloom 492). As this quote describes, a main theme in the discussion of liberated women is sexual liberation. This theme is explored though the characters of Esther Greenwood in Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar and Brenda Patimkin in Philip Roth's Goodbye, Columbus. Several readings from "Takin' It to the Streets" discuss the politics of the women's liberation movement in terms of housework and class conflict. à Liberated women of the 1960's exercised freedoms that shocked and dismayed their mothers. They wanted the freedom to choose a career over domesticity, the freedom not to be sexually pure, and the freedom to express themselves as individuals. Liberated women wanted to have the choice to wear pants instead of skirts and avoid spending hours on hair and make-up. They did not want the primary purpose of their outward appearance to be simply to attract men. The expression of individual style and personality was key in becoming independent, freethinking women unbounded by the restrictions o... ...are still issues our society is struggling with today. à To conclude, liberated women and the women's liberation movement are two separate, but related, concepts. The concerns of liberated women are more individualized than those of the women's lib movement. Liberated women are more concerned with their own personal identities and independence, whether it's their sexual freedom or freedom from their bras. The women's liberation movement, however, is more about women's collective interests and the actions that can be taken to remove the sexual oppression that denigrates all women. à Works Cited Bloom, Alexander and Wini Breines. Report Writing on a Paintball Game
Yesterday at 3:30 pm was Jonnyââ¬â¢s last strike as he had shot his mother. This action had only seemed as an accident, but as we confronted him it would only seem as an unlikely act that had taken place because of the objective of the game, or is it? Tune into the rest of this article to find out the real objective behind this setup. The legendary twenty-first century game of paintball co-exists as a way of enlightening the players of the dangers of being at war. The fun loving sport is a thrilling experience one should have if he is able to.The sport requires excellence in agility and the ability to make decisions on a quick note, as well as teamwork risking the life of others. Paintball technology is also used by military forces, law enforcement, Para-military and security organizations to supplement military training, riot response, and non-lethal suppression of dangerous suspects. Jonny Kapalo, the amateur paintball player, from West Kentucky had his eyes set on the joy of sh ooting in the mexcian home grounds of paintball, as one of the best ten places for paintballing. The game started at the crack of dawn when the teams split up. There were the Rottweilers and the meerkats. The players were to play in the paint-stained quagmire. The first game was ââ¬Ëcapture the flagââ¬â¢ and the meerkats (also known as Jonnyââ¬â¢s team) had a good run since the game was theirs for the taking. The win was won by for his heroic dash for the flag which was quite a cheeky move, as his teammates distracted the adversary by covering for him. The second game was search and destroy, which consisted of four targets. The seekers of the game had a terminator of a man code name the ââ¬ËPredatorââ¬â¢. The imprudent Jonny took the game as a joke and a couple of his teammates took into account of his plan of shooting the Predator. The error of this childish prank is that the Predator takes no hostiles even if it is caused by mutiny among his own teammates. At the coun t of three, with the predator in front of the scouting group, Jonny and his friends made their move, consequently, the more experienced player got the best of them and Jonnyââ¬â¢s team was disqualified on the account of the uprising to the Predator. The third and final game was the team death match. This game has obvious objectives which are that you get terminated if you run out of paintballs or if you get shot. Each player was low on ammo and the last thing they wanted was to end the game. So each player had to examine their surroundings to look for places that could not be seen by the enemy. Jonny had thought of hiding behind a bush, to stalk his next victim. The unsuspecting detail of his hideout was unseen by the enemy. The next victim was to be his very own mother which was to be the most unlikely person to walk by. The poor woman was shot head to toe with suppressing shots. When she declared herself to be out of the game, Jonny crept back into hiding to wait for his next vic tim. But shortly afterwards the game was over and the Rottweilers won 2-1. We asked a few comments from Jonny and here is what he said, ââ¬Å"The game was a game and I did not know that my mother would come out of cover and I would shoot her which was actually pretty awkward considering how well she could use a gun. Jonnyââ¬â¢s mother had also shared her comments with us on how the game appealed to her. ââ¬Å"The game was quite exciting, as an ex-marine I was born to be on the front line. The experience was a good one and it was great to see Jonny walking up my footsteps. â⬠To me as a viewer the game was exhilarating and thrilling to watch, and informs me on the aspects of war and arts. This can stimulate a great experience which cannot be missed if one is able to afford. In my opinion Jonnyââ¬â¢s mother forfeited the win to her son by exposing her cover.

Information About The Housing Patterns, Libraries And...
As an educational leader, one must be aware of the assets of the community served by the school, where the students coexist outside the walls of the school, and what the community offers to those who reside in it. The aim of this report is to convey information about the housing patterns, libraries and bookstores, food resources, hospitals and healthcare providers, social and community agencies, recreational settings, and activities located in this community and its impact on equity. The method used to gather information about the community in the attendance zone for Richard J Wilson Elementary School was through a community walk and other data resources. The equity audit was developed to gather knowledge of all the limitations andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Most of the houses were constructed before the 1950ââ¬â¢s (Figure 3). The houses that were not deteriorating showed evidence of renovations (Figure 4). Conditions of the inside of the house in terms of comfort and safety for its residents are unknown. Figure 3. Years of construction for Wilson attendance zone. Figure 4. Samples of housing in area. This photo illustrates the contrast of deteriorating houses and houses which have been renovated. There are many indicators from the US Census (2011-2015) that give a clue to the socio-economic conditions of a community. The level of homeownerships gives a picture of how vested residents are in a community. Usually a homeowner is more invested in a community and its maintenance than a tenant because they have literally invested their capital in that community. (REALTORSà ®, August 2010) The US Census (2011-2015) showed higher levels of rented accommodations instead of homeownership in this area (Figure 5). This was also observed during the community walk. Figure 5: Proportion of Households with Various Income Sources in 76110 in 2011-2015 (U. S. Census, 2011-2015). The median monthly mortgage payment for owners was $1,237, for non-mortgage owners was $421, and for renters was $774.
